Another Day, Another Opinion

Truthfully, I wasn't planning to post today. Yesterday was not a good day and I just didn't feel in the mood to write today.

My visit to Doc #2 didn't go as I had hoped and I left feeling quite defeated. I left his office with a script for a rather expensive test just to rule out a condition that he doesn't think I have. I mean, really? What's with that? So, I can take more time away from work and give more money to insurance companies to rule out something he doesn't think I have to begin with? Doesn't sound right to me. What he does think is more likely is that I have ITBS, but from the extensive amount of articles, posts, etc that I've read on the injury my symptoms don't match ITBS at all. Obviously, I wasn't happy leaving his office and the horrible wind and rain didn't help my mood either. It was the first time I've ever emailed Woody at work to tell him we're going to get takeout for dinner because I didn't feel like cooking. We met at Chipotle after work. I ended my day with a couple Girls Scout Thin Mint cookies.

So, why did I decide to post today after all that?

Because I woke up, got out of bed, and my leg wasn't as tight as most mornings. I was cautiously optimistic. Got to the gym, did a few light stretches. Walked at a fast pace on the treadmill for a quarter mile, then went to the stretching mat to loosen up with the foam roller. Stretched a little more back on the treadmill and hit start. Amazingly enough, I wasn't too wonky at the start. Still wonky, but not too bad. It lasted a little longer than a half mile, but I ended up going 4 miles! It wasn't fast, but it was four miles! Because I've now heard a few times that my left leg is stronger, I headed to the leg press machine and did 2 sets of 10 presses just with the right leg and another double leg set. Then over to the mat for more stretching, exercises and about 10 minutes with the foam roller. I'm feeling pretty good right now and hope this lasts a while. Who knows what tomorrow morning will bring, but right now I'm feeling much better than yesterday. Mentally and physically.

Today, my goal is to get an appointment at the Women's Sports Medicine Clinic with Hospital for Special Surgery. I probably should have gone there first, but better late than never. I need another opinion.
  • If you're having a less than stellar day, how do you turn it around?
  • When you're injured or sick, do you look for second, or third, opinions?

I admit to being concerned. Maybe it's a local muscle reaction to all the injections.

I am glad your leg feels better! I would probably do the same thing as you if I had a bad day: eat something yummy!!

I'm glad you're feeling better and were able to run! I've been to that clinic at HSS and they are excellent. If you need PT, I highlight recommend HSS as well - I'm going there right now for my Achilles and they have worked wonders!

Defintiely get more opinions if you're not satisfied!
