A Weekend That Was

Do you ever have the kind of weekend that was just 'eh'? That was my weekend.

It started by me working till 7:30pm Friday night and not getting to eat my lunch until 9pm. You read that right, I had taken a great lunch to work that I had made (sweet potato, black beans, broccoli, carrots) but the day was so hectic with so many impromptu meetings that I never had a chance to eat it! Good thing I had some carrot sticks, hummus and an apple at my desk to munch on.

Saturday morning was too cold for me to run outside. I had been wishing it would be warm enough, but the wind chill would have been brutal on my sinuses and I would have spent more time blowing my nose than running, so I opted for the gym instead. I actually had a pretty great workout nonetheless - doing four miles on the Woodway (an awesome treadmill with a softer belt), a half an hour on the elliptical and spending some time with the free weights and exercise ball. Felt strong and in good spirits when I headed back to the apartment.

Afterwards I had some errands to run that took me all throughout the city. Sometimes it takes me longer to do things than I think it takes the average person, so my errands took most of the afternoon. I was kind of exhausted, hungry and had only found about half of the things I had set out for by the time Woody met me at the Shake Shack to try out their infamous salted peanut butter hot chocolate. It kind of surprised me how many people were there eating outside as the snow fell. Kind of pretty, too though. The hot chocolate was pretty good. Thankfully not as thick as I had thought it would be, but it did fulfill my hunger pangs! And best of all, we didn't have to wait in line for a hour to get it!

We finally made it home after a long wait in the TJ's line and I collapsed on the couch before we made dinner together. On the menu - wild salmon, TJ's wild rice blend, black beans, and kale. I had one of the straight-from-the-grower oranges for dessert.

It was pretty good, but we've done better. At the very least, it was a healthy dinner after a very decadent snack earlier in the afternoon.

Sunday morning I woke up feeling blah. I just didn't have a ton of energy but I knew that working out would probably help. Once again, it was prohibitively cold (at least for me) so I went downstairs to the gym in our building. Unfortunately though, working out didn't give me much more spunk. I spent an hour on the elliptical and did a bit of ab work but I didn't have enough in me to do more. I guess I was a bit disinterested, so I headed back up stairs and got to work with my chores. Before 12:30pm I had done my laundry, a load of towels, cleaned the floors, taken a shower and eating breakfast. I felt pretty accomplished.

Breakfast was the highlight - eggs, whole grain toast, hummus, a salad and one of the very tasty grapefruits that came with the oranges! Oh, and I can't forget coffee.

Unfortunately I had to stick around the apartment all afternoon because I was on call to proof a deck I'm working on with co-workers for a big meeting this week and it seems that none of the coffee shops in FiDi (and there aren't many) have WiFi. I love spending a couple hours every Sunday at a coffee shop reading and relaxing. Plus it gets me out of the apartment while Woody watches Football! I didn't get the file until well after 7pm. Oh well. Such is the working girl's life.

This morning's workout was much better than yesterdays! At least that's something!

How was your weekend? Any highlights?

Dinner looks good.
I ran all day Saturday with errands , too. Somehow was very tiring.
Congrats on feeling better , though. I know 2 years ago was extremely difficult.

My weekend was awesome. I somehow managed to squeak in four different workouts, three of which were with awesome friends. It was exhausting, but very, very satisfying.
