One Year Ago Today

A year ago today, I posted this. I really had no idea what I was getting myself into, which was one thing that attracted me to this world of blogging. Unlike a lot of bloggers, I hadn't been following running or health blogs for too long when I started. I just knew I wanted to do something creative and document my marathon training. Now, I have a reading list that is far too long for my own good! Seriously, am I the only one who can not find enough time to read every blog on my list?

Okay, back on topic. I really appreciate each one of you who spends a little bit of your precious time here, reading whatever it is I've decided to share. There is no way I can begin to express how much I appreciate all of your comments, this whole blogging community, all that I've learned, and the opportunity it has given me to write. I've had a great time this year and look forward to (hopefully) many more years to come.

To celebrate this momentous occasion, I've put together a little "Early Morning Run, Favorite Things Pack" to give away to one lucky reader! It's a somewhat random collection of things, but I think they're pretty great and hope you do too!

There's even more!
  • 1 Jacques Torres Dangerously Dark Chocolate Bar (provided by Jacques Torres)
  • Chobani Greek Yogurt coupons (provided by Chobani)
  • 2 squeeze packets of Peanut Butter & Co peanut butter - Bee's Knees and Smooth Operator (1 each)
  • 1 reusable water bottle
  • 1 Foot Rubz massage ball
There are three easy ways to enter (important: leave separate comments for each entry):
  • Be a follower or become one, and leave a comment
  • Answer a question: What is one thing you learned from reading my blog over the past year?
  • Leave a question: Leave me a question about something you'd like to know more about. It can be a question about me, about fitness, health, New York City, whatever you want to know more about! Your choice!
Rules: one comment = one entry. You must be a resident of the United States or Canada (sorry). Please leave your email address in your comment if it is not associated with your profile so I can reach you if you win! Contest will run through 8:00pm EST Monday, August 16th. The winner will be posted on Tuesday the 17th.

Fine Print: While Jacques Torres and Chobani Yogurt donated items for this giveaway, I personally purchased the others. I truly enjoy all of these products.

Thank you so much for checking out my blog and joining the conversations! I hope you enjoy what you read and keep coming back for more!

Good luck!!

Oh, I will just go with the most recent thing I have learned... Black bean and squash quesadillas are pretty darn good! Love your blog. For whatever reason reason life in NYC fascinates me so you drew me in :)

Congrats girl. I was very much like you when I started blogging. I really had no idea what to expect and read only a very few blogs even. So glad you started blogging! I do indeed follow your blog.

I've learned not to take my ability to run for granted when there are others out there who are unable to run due to injuries or other circumstances.

I've been following for a while now! Looking forward to more!

What have I learned? Your blog was one of the first ones I started following and I kept seeing you list foam roller...at that time, I had no idea what one was...I love mine now!

Question for you: Given the time you had to take off from your injury, do you think you'd want to train for a full marathon ever again?

I learned about POM for the first time on your blog and you gave me the idea to put sweet potatoes in a quesadilla. Odd, but delicious!

What do you love about NYC? Do you think there will be a point where you want to leave?

Robyn @ Wannabe Writer Runner said...

I learned so much! But the best part is always finding out about the wonderful events NYC has to offer. Like Salutation Nation, or summer streets, or a random race.

I want to know if you'll have a nyc bloggy meetup with me! hehe

I've learned some new options for lunches and dinner, you KNOW I love your food photos!

Oh, and also? I'd love for you to do a post on how you manage to survive those daily sessions on the s-bike. Do you go at a steady pace, or do intervals, or what? I know it would be good cross-training but I'm never able to get excited about it. :)

I learned to listen to your body and doctors when recovering from injury! I am recovering from a post-marathon knee injury and it sure is hard not to run!

I learned (guess it's obvious but hadn't thought about it) that indoor exercise machines consume a lot of energy.

Two questions - any advice on improving speed during 5K's and - have you ever run Roosevelt Island? I read someone's blog about doin that once and it sounded fun. Thanks for doing the giveaway!!

So glad for that day a year ago! :) I am a follower. And I have to tell you, I love the photo header of your blog. It's my absolute favorite place in NYC. :)

What is your favorite book and why?

Erica said...

Wow, I've learned a lot, but one thing I think that really stuck with me is the need to rest and recover, really listening to your body during an injury. I just signed up for a half-marathon and promptly got achilles tendinitis. I'm trying to be patient with it and let in heal with time.
You truly are incredibly inspirational, as is your blog. Thank you for sharing with all of us.
