A lot of people were there - kids bundled head to toe in snow gear carrying sleds, parents wrangling in their energetic kids, teens with their coats unzipped trying to look cool, 20-something guys with their snowboards and gear, and childless couples, like us, just there to check out all the excitement. Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture of us before my camera battery died. We looked cute in our hats, winter coats, and mittens (well, me with the mittens) and cold red noses!
this was a cute little kid - probably 10 years old or so (the top pic)
some companies were handing out samples, including the NY State Apple Assoc. - we didn't wait in the long line, even though a hot cup of cider would have been very good. The state tourist agency, some ski resorts, and a couple farmers' market vendors were there too.
learning to snowboard
trying out cross country skiing (see the green grass behind them!?)
It was a pretty cool free event with a little bit for everyone. I just wish it didn't have to be so cold for winter sports! ;)
Did you get hit by the storm, or a storm this weekend? What's your favorite outdoor winter activity?

Happy SITS Saturday Sharefest!
Great Pics! In my parts the weather is gloomy and raining off & on. I love to curl up turn in the heater and read a book. I also like to cook so it warms up the apt & blog of course =D
“Happy SITS Saturday Sharefest”
Oh Yeay!I am so glad I found you!!!I am a runner too and was born in NYC!!!great pics!happy Sharefest Saturday!!
Awesome Pictures Lisa!! I must plan a trip to New York soon!!
Looks like so much fun! So there WAS snow in the city. Way up here in Inwood we got nothing!
I love cross country skiing (skate style) - except we only get about two months a year here max and only two resorts in the country really offer it!
We got some pretty decent snow (not nearly as much as DC), but we had a great time sledding with some friends and the dogs. It's pretty funny to see people here with snow - anything can be used as a sled! My favorite was the little kid in the laundry basket - almost as good as our kayak going down the hill ;) hope you're having a great weekend!
favorite winter activity?
hmmmmm...I'm pretty sure we don't have winter here :)
I grew up in Northern British Columbia where there is LOTS of snow and it's COLD. I now live in southern BC and we've had a super mild winter with barely any snow. I kind of miss it!
My favourite winter activities are definitely skating (I grew up playing hockey) and snowboarding!
That seems too strange to me to truck in snow for an event but soon we will need to do it in Vermont. My favorite winter activity???? Can I cheat and say reading by the woodstove?
I live in Houston so my favorite winter outdoor activity is running!
Julie - do you have pics of the kid in the laundry basket & your canoe?! That sounds hilarious! I LOVE IT!!
AJH - yes, reading by the woodstove counts. My favorite winter activity is also one that includes warmth!
Amanda K - my dad is a big x-country skier, too. It's definitely a great workout!
