I've Been Tagged: The 5 Questions

The other day Jeff over at A Detroit Runner tagged me in a post after he had been tagged by Adam at I am Boring (both great blogs, go check them out. After you finish reading this post, of course!). Jeff lives in my home state of Michigan, so it's fun for me to read of his cold weather running adventures! He's also running a race in the Spring that is on my list of 'must do races,' the Bayshore Marathon in Traverse City! Well, I just want to run the half marathon. It will be Jeff's first marathon as he just started running in June 2009.

Anyway... I've done my part and kept the chain going. Read on for the questions and answers....

1. What are you most fond of accomplishing in 2010?
Being patient with my injuries and getting back out there! If you haven't been following for long, I've been injured on and off since the NYC marathon last year and finally started running again in July. I'm still not 100%, but I'm getting close and I'm proud of myself for taking the time I needed to recover.

2. What are your running goals for 2011?
Next year is going to be a big year for me. God willing, I will run at least three half marathons, maybe four. I'm not planning on another marathon (at least not yet) but I do want to increase my mileage and maintain a good level of fitness. I'm also hoping to regain some of the speed I've lost through my injuries.

3. What is your favorite race?
Although I didn't get to run it this year, the NYRR Mini 10K is always a great race. I love running this women's only race that starts along Central Park West before heading into the park. There's tons of energy and the women support each other the entire way. It's also a competitive race that draws elite runners.

4. What is your favorite holiday guilty pleasure?
Basically anything chocolate (but what's new?) and cookies. Oh, the cookies. Thankfully there haven't been too many at the office so I haven't been tempted too often!

5. What was your most embarrassing running moment?
I'm sorry to say that I don't really have any embarrassing moments. Which I think, is a good thing! Although it's not very funny, I am pretty embarrassed that I broke my foot running the marathon. I don't enjoy admitting that, but at least I made it across the finish line!

Okay, now it's my turn to tag a few other bloggers. I hate calling people out because I'd really love to learn more about all of you, so instead I'm going to break the chain (sorry Jeff, I hope you're not disappointed!) and ask that you choose one, or more, of the questions and answer in the comments!

I hope you're all having a great week and if you're traveling for the holidays, please travel safely and breathe deeply if things start getting hectic! You'll get there eventually and have so much to be happy about and thankful for!

I'll leave you with this picture of the Bloomberg Christmas tree

1. What are you most fond of accomplishing in 2010? Hands down the ability to complete such an ambitious athletic schedule - 3 marathons including Pikes Peak!
2. What are your running goals for 2011?
All about speed! All half marathons and under. Have fun and see what happens.
3. What is your favorite race?
Hmm tricky. I have fallen in love with the PPTC Cherry Tree 10 miler/relay in February.

4. What is your favorite holiday guilty pleasure?
Cookies. I can't resist!

5. What was your most embarrassing running moment? Does losing your shoe during a race count;)

Among the most underrated holiday guilty pleasures: tri-flavor popcorn tins. The butter-cheese-caramel trifecta is outstanding. The sodium levels give me cankles. But it's worth it.

Ugh. #5. I've never told anyone except my husband this. When I ran my half marathon (my first) this year, my stomach was kind of bothering me. I really should have stopped at a porta potty on the course but had a good pace going and didn't want to lose time. After the race, I was standing in the bag check line and smelled this gross smell. I really hope that's not me, I thought. Unfortunately, it was. I changed in a porta potty after cleaning myself up as best I could. In the future, the bag I check will always have baby wipes!

I don't think it was noticeable to race spectators, and thankfully I was wrapped in my mylar blanket afterwards, but it was still mortifying. On the other hand, my sub-2 hour finish is still my greatest running achievement to date, so I don't think I'd do anything different if given a redo.

Aren't you glad you asked? Lol

My goal for 2011 is an ultramarathon. The one I have in my sights is time instead of distance: 24 hours of running a one mile loop. I am way more excited about this than I should be. Everyone keeps telling me it sounds awful, but to me it sounds like SO MUCH FUN.

I'm trying to convince my trainer to join me.
